1986-1987 Cadillac: Blower Runs All the Time

We have received several calls on the 1986-1987 Cadillac, with a problem of the blower motor staying engaged with the ignition switch off. This problem is very easy to spot. The blower motor staying "on" even with the key out of the ignition switch.

The power supply to the blower motor comes from circuit 761, a solid purple wire. The control of the blower motor comes from circuit 760, a purple wire with a white tracer. With the key off, there is no signal on circuit 760, therefore only a shorted module can cause this problem.

USE THE FOLLOWING DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE:

SERVICE TIP: Check the Blower Motor amperage to see if it is excessive (20 amps Max.) The blower motor can cause a power spike that can short out the Power Module.
