1993 to 1997 Chrysler: Evaporator Debris

Models Affected:

1993-1997 Chrysler Concorde (LH), LHS, and New Yorker
1993-1997 Dodge (LH) Intrepid
1993-1997 Eagle (LH) Vision

Problem:

The affected vehicles may experience a reduction of airflow across the evaporator core or a loss of cooling and airflow volume from A/C registers. These vehicles may also suffer from premature evaporator core leaks resulting in the loss of refrigerant.
Note:

All LH body design vehicles built prior to March 31, 1997 are candidates for the upgraded cowl plenum screen.

Explanation:

The problem is caused by the existing cowl plenum screen, allowing debris to enter the evaporator case. Chrysler has introduced a new and improved cowl plenum screen. This new screen will prevent debris (i.e. leaves, twigs, and feathers) from entering and collecting in the evaporator case housing. Excessive accumulation of debris in the evaporator case housing can cause evaporator corrosion. This debris will also restrict airflow through the evaporator and will effect cooling. It is therefore recommended that any time an evaporator is replaced a new cowl plenum screen be installed.

Parts Required: 1 - Chrysler #04756940AB Cowl Plenum Screen.

Procedure:

1. Remove passenger side cowl cover

2. Remove old cowl plenum screen

3. Clean out debris.

4. Install new improved cowl plenum screen.

5. Reinstall cowl cover.
