All of the components
for the serpentine evaporators are manufactured in house with the exception
of the fittings. The headers, inlet tube, and outlet tube are cut to length,
slotted, end formed, and bent in the appropriate configuration. The side
supports are stamped and formed to the correct size and shape. The flat
tube is bent in a serpentine pattern on a hydraulic bender and end formed
using cutting and shaping dies. The air fin is roll formed, fluxed, and
dried. These items plus brazing rings are assembled together and compressed
properly using universal fixtures. Flux is applied to the intended braze
joints and the evaporator compression is secured using metal banding. The
unit is placed on a conveyor and brazed in the Nocolok brazing furnace.
Limited hand brazing is performed after oven brazing to secure ports, block
fittings or tube extensions. The evaporators are leak tested using a helium
mass spectrometer.
Once the evaporators pass leak test, caps, o-rings, and sometimes sealing
foam are assembled to each unit. The unit is then packaged for shipment.
